Caribelle Batik was founded by the present owner Mr. Maurice Widdowson in 1974.

How old is the tree?
The tree is approximately 350 years old. It originates in South America and the seeds must have been planted by Arawak Indians.

What is the history of Romney Manor?
Thomas Jefferson the great grandfather of 3rd president of the U.S.A, was the original owner of the estate. He sold the Wingfield portion which contained the “Red House” to the Earl of Romney. The Earl of Romney renamed the property “Romney Manor.” This name has remained for over 3 centuries.

Has Romney Manor always looked like this?
Over the centuries the Manor has changed in character many times. Fires, Hurricanes, Termites have all taken their toll. The development of the Manor is easily seen by the keen eye of an amateur archeologist. The present owner is committed to maintaining the historical integrity of the estate

Are all Caribelle Batik products locally made?
Yes, all staff members are from St.Kitts and all the Caribelle products are made at Romney Manor.

The owner is frequently asked, “Do you enjoy living in St. Kitts?” The response;
I live in paradise, I live here by choice and do not wish to leave. How many people on this planet live and work in such an environment. I made the decision to place Caribelle Batik in St. Kitts 30 years ago. The people, the place, the future make that decision the wisest one I ever made.”

Where do we get the inspiration for our designs?
Easy, look out of the window, even on a rainy day it’s beautiful.

Why don’t we have a restaurant or drinks available?
